Orangeade

A refreshing and delicious citrus beverage!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 4 cups orange juice, freshly squeezed about 4 pounds of oranges
  • 4 cups cold water
  • orange slices

Instructions

  1. Make a simple syrup by combining 2 cups water and 2 cups white sugar in a medium pot on stove top.  Heat over MEDIUM just until sugar is completely dissolved, stirring frequently.

  2. Strain your freshly squeezed orange juice two times to remove all pulp and seeds.  This action helps to keep the beverage from becoming bitter when stored for 3-4 days.

  3. Once syrup is ready, turn heat to LOW and stir in the strained orange juice.  Stir well to combine, 2-3 minutes, then turn heat off and remove from stove top.

  4. Pour the orange mixture into a serving pitcher and add 4 cups of cold water, stirring well to combine.

  5. Keep in refrigerator until ready to serve.  Serve over lots of ice and add an  orange slice to each glass, if desired.

Recipe Notes

TIP:  save your orange "shells" in a freezer bag to use for homemade simmering potpourri, or for serving orange sherbet!
