Everyone has their own version of a favorite sausage ball recipe…here is the one my guys like best! Great for that busy School week, hectic weekend mornings or the Holidays!
Sausage Balls
Ingredients
- 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
- 1 lb sausage, mild or HOT
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup buttermilk
- freshly ground black pepper
Instructions
-
Let the sausage and cheese set out for about 15 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°.
-
Combine sausage, baking mix, cheese and mix well. Stir in about 1/4 cup of buttermilk as needed to moisten the sausage mixture, but do not allow to get too "wet" or mixture will become soggy. If this happens, add more baking mix and cheese.
-
Add a few dashes of freshly ground black pepper to the mixture. (If you prefer to use HOT sausage instead of mild, skip this step).
-
Once mixture items are well combined, use a spoon to scoop into small amounts and shape into balls about the size of a large walnut. You may use a small cookie scoop for this step.
-
Place sausage balls onto parchment paper-lined baking sheets and bake until lightly golden in color, about 25 minutes. Check that sausage is cooked through. Depending on size of balls, should yield 25-35 sausage balls.
-
Serve immediately. Keep extras in refrigerator to reheat as needed.
Recipe Notes
This is a great recipe to prepare ahead and store in freezer when cooled. Great to have on hand for busy mornings or the Holidays! To prepare from frozen state, place in refrigerator overnight to thaw, then microwave for 15-30 seconds until heated. Or, remove from freezer and defrost in microwave for 1-2 minutes, then heat as needed.
