Welcome back for Day 2 of CrockTober 2020! Today’s recipe takes an old classic and makes it a SIMPLE and EASY Crockpot Treat!
Chex Mix for the Crockpot
Ingredients
- 4 cups Rice Chex cereal
- 4 cups Corn Chex cereal
- 3 cups Cheerios cereal
- 2 cups pretzels, mini or sticks, broken in half
- 1 stick butter
- 2 T. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 t. seasoned salt
- 1 t. garlic powder
- 1 t. onion powder
Instructions
-
In a large Crockpot, 6 quart-size or larger, and preferably an oval-shaped Crockpot, combine the cereals and pretzels. (Using an oval-shaped cooker allows for more even heating of the food. If you must use a round unit, be sure to stir often).
-
Melt butter in a small bowl; then stir in the Worcestershire sauce and remaining spices until well blended.
-
Pour half of the butter mixture over the cereal, stir well to coate; then pour remaining butter mixture over cereal and stir again.
-
Set Crockpot to LOW and cook for 3 hours, stirring every 20 minutes or so.
-
After 1 hour, place paper towels across the top of the Crockpot and let your lid hold them in place. this helps to absorb moisture as the cereal finishes cooking.
-
Promptly remove cereal at the end of 3 hours! Pour onto baking sheets or parchment paper-lined trays and spread into single layer and allow to cool.
Recipe Notes
This is a great treat to use to introduce kids to Crockpot cooking! Feel free to add in peanuts, bagel chips, etc., to add variety for your own tastes!
Remember to remove promptly at the end of cooking time to avoid overcooked cereal. (The second test run I made of this recipe, I ran an errand and left mixture on WARM in my Crockpot, it was not as good as the first run where I followed instructions and removed promptly.)
Enjoy! And remember this recipe when making treats for the Holidays!
